All NEWS services are free, confidential, and available to people of all backgrounds.
We welcome and affirm individuals regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability status, immigration status, or economic situation.
NEWS exists to provide safety, hope, healing, and empowerment for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
We are equally committed to building safer communities through prevention, education, advocacy, and social change.
NEWS was founded in 1981, when community members recognized a critical gap in support for adults and children fleeing abuse. At that time, volunteers opened their hearts to protect survivors — a powerful reminder that safety should never depend on chance.
What began as a grassroots response has grown into a comprehensive organization serving approximately 1,800 individuals each year through crisis response, emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, youth services, and prevention education across Napa County.
We are committed to transparency and responsible stewardship of resources. Annual reports, financial statements, and IRS filings are available to the public.
